Assessment against the Star Unit criteria is integrated within a normal S/NVQ assessment, and although the assessor may have to make additional decisions as to whether the Star Unit criteria have been met, any extra time requirement is minimal.

The assessment process itself varies according to which model is being followed (see What is the structure of Star Units?) but largely, Star Unit evidence should be collected as part of the process of collecting evidence for the S/NVQ – integration of assessment and evidence collection is key to ensure the naturally-occurring nature of the Star Unit performance.
