Star Units were first developed as an initiative of the LSC Coventry and Warwickshire which funded UK Skills and City & Guilds to identify, capture and acknowledge exceptional performance.

This project proved to be successful and models and good practice were established which are now being adopted by Awarding Bodies for the development of Star Units for a wide range of vocational fields.
