Star Units have been introduced to complement the Standards upon which S/NVQs are based in order to be able to give recognition to individuals for their outstanding or exceptional performance.

There are a number of benefits which follow from this. However, the principal objects are to:
  • raise motivation
  • increase awareness of wider aspects of occupational performance
  • provide formal recognition for exceptional performance
Star Units should also play a particularly important role in enhancing the quality of Apprenticeships and contributing to selection processes such as, for example, employment, promotion and participation in Skills Competitions.
