While working towards the NVQ it is important to be aware of and understand what the Star Units involve and require as the assessors will want to see the incorporation of specific evidence of your outstanding performance.
You should receive from your college, employer or training provider the Star Unit requirements as part of your S/NVQ documentation. Read this and make sure you understand it.
As you collect together your normal S/NVQ evidence in your portfolio (e.g photographs, documents or examples of your work) keep a check of whether or not it is covering the Star Unit performance criteria. You may need to talk to your lecturer or trainer about this.
Remember that to achieve a Star Unit you do not need to gain any additional skills but you do need to work at a higher standard of quality.
NOTE: In some cases colleges, training providers or employers may not provide for Star Unit assessment even though the Star Units are available (Which NVQs currently have associated Star Units?). If so, it may be worth asking your relevant contacts whether they would start to offer this facility.
