Star Units are an initiative from UK Skills, an independent organisation committed to raising the standards of skills and training in the UK as part of the drive to boost the productivity and effectiveness of UK employers. UKSkills works in conjunction with a range of organisations and undertakes specific projects on behalf of the Government. It is best known for its management of the Government’s National Training Awards and WorldSkills UK competitions.
For the development and trialling of Star Units, UK Skills has collaborated with the City & Guilds of London Institute, the largest and one of the UK’s best known vocational qualifications awarding bodies. Extensive research and careful evaluation has been undertaken to ensure that the Star Units fit well with S/NVQs both in terms of design and assessment.
The number of Star Units linked to S/NVQs is growing all the time [ see Which NVQs currently have associated Star Units? ]. As a result there is a rapidly increasing pool of experience about their use by lecturers and trainers, assessors and standard setting bodies. If there are no Star Units available at your local college, training provider or via your employer; or in your occupational field then contact us. We may be able to advise on where or when they will be accessible.
We will also be encouraging learners and practitioners alike to write Blogs, contribute to our Forums and keep up to date through our Diary with the latest developments.
